So who has the power to Tax? Either raise or lower taxes, where does that power come from? Who controls the purse strings? And who has the majority?

Perhaps the GOP should oust Boenher and replace him with someone who can lead a political negotiation. Gawd, where is Tip O'Neil when we need him?

Why don't we go back to funding the government the way we did the first 100 years? Tariffs

Think of the jobs that would be created here at home with a 25% tariff on everything coming into the country.

Actually the GOP has already agreed to closing the loopholes and it is not the top 1% they want to raise taxes on now but the top 2%. That will probably increase to the top 5% soon since the top 2% will do nothing for the deficit or give them enough to blow. As for the rich not leaving, it is already happening because they know the increase will come.
Where are they moving to Rick?
Europe? That have a VAT tax in addition to their income tax.
China? Japan? Honduras?

Israel is socialist country with cradle to grave .gov run healthcare and a top individual tax rate of 48% in addition to a 17% VAT.
Switzerland has a relatively low income tax rate but they have dozens of other taxes including a tax on everything you own, not just real estate, but your total holdings.
Switzerland also has a social security tax rate of 25% on the employer and 20% on the employee.
Brazil looks promising, except for their high social security taxes. Portugese language anyone?

I feel like there are several folks who think we have higher corporate taxes in the US than "other countries".

I'd love to see some examples - I know of slowly developing nations that are luring corporations into best-shoring by way of a promise of next to zero taxes, but in all honesty with the US tax-code (and corporate lobbyists and legal/accounting staff), I don't think a single public-funded corporation in the US actually pays their full "tax rate" no matter how you define it. They would honestly be stupid to do so if the loopholes were handed to them (and they are).

(Not to single you out EZ but this quote is just too good of an example to pass up for my point. This very premise is rampant in the media, so I'm not dogging you personally.)

This whole ideology is just intellectually dishonest, hypocritical and childish. Typical democrat. :nolike:

So did said corporation(s) pay their tax liabilities or not? If answer = YES, then THEY PAID THEIR FREAKING TAXES! In other words they didn't "stick it" to anybody! If you don't like the tax system, then change it. But just knock off the class warfare ******** and don't demonize these folks for doing what you yourself would if you were the CEO. The hypocrisy of the democrats and their lapdog media is just maddening! Does anyone care to look at any of the rich democrats tax returns? Pelosi, John Kerry, Harry "Real Estate" Reid, anybody? Offshore accounts? Utilizing "tax loopholes and deductions"? Oh the horror! It would be just "ridiculous" to even mention such a thing!

This is the concept that makes it impossible for me to vote for a democrat. You can apply it to many issues.
