So far I've not heard it try to double-start the compressor. I will have to see how it cycles over the next few days. we have a newer heat-pump (read MISTAKE) in our house, so our bills are absolutely outrageous in the summer. a $200 electric bill would be cause for celebration.

the things you learn as a first time buyer. . .

My bill this month was exactly half of the bill I paid this month last year. Don't really remember how hot it was then. I just know I can monitor online while at work and call and tell the kids to turn crap off! The only thing I really can't do is not run the air before 7. For the past month it goes to about 76 when i get home. I get text messages on what the rate will be the next day. Highest has been .2 per KWH but mostly stays aroudn .09. So far so good.

Aviator, What do you not like about your heat pump? I have had one for three years and have had good luck and use very little ONG in winter.

I've saved about $20 so far this year. It's harder for me to cut back working at home all the time. Last year I only saved about $80 all summer but that was because I set my t-stat down much further when I got my new system and I didn't get enrolled and setup until it had been going for almost 2 months. I'm setting the t-stat up to 80 at 2:00 since that is about as much as I care to take. If I leave the house I'll turn the A/C off while gone. I just was looking at my daily consumption and figured out my A/C was kicking back on at around 6:30. Did some digging and my new system has a "intelligent recovery" function. It actually learns the run time and kicks on so to be at the temp you set whenever the time is hit. Now that I know this and have reprogrammed it a bit I figure I'll save at least $200 this year.

My only issue is it takes till late in the evening to cool the house down to 75 again. Is it my unit or does it take everybody 4-5 hours to get back to a decent temp?
