So I went out to the lease I have been on for the past five years. It is a nice 450 ac place not far from OKC. Was doing some cleanup and getting rid of wasps in my blind and stuff. Anyway, I noticed the feeder was missing the spinner and batteries. So I texted my friend who I lease with to see if he knew what was up. He replied that the spinner wasn't working and not under warranty anymore so he took it off. He went on to say, "oh, XXX XXXXX is going to take your spot this year...sorry."

That was last week! I am mad, but more than mad, I am hurt. We have been friends for many years. We have traveled together, go to church together, and he didn't even have the courtesy to discuss with me. I would have loved some time to find a new place to hunt. Kinda late now to find some land and get ready for deer season.

Anyone else ever had that kind of experience?

That would be a tough pill for me to swallow with season opening on Tuesday, and I would say the guy wasn't much of a "friend" to do you that way.

I hear a story like yours at least once a year. I have been bashed about this before but ALL of the hunting leases I have been around end with someone leasing the land out from under you or busting up of a friendship. Hunting leases are going to ruin hunting. Sorry to hear that you lost your spot. Better go grab a spot on public land but enjoy it while you can.

Kind of a reverse situation, but I gave a guy permission to hunt a place that anybody on this forum would like to hunt at no charge.

I drove by one day and saw two people other than him coming out of the woods. Said the Ex buddy gave them permission to go in there as he was working that weekend.

Bad mistake.

We're on the other end of this deal right now. The leasee was told three months ago that we were not going to lease to anyone this year. This weekend, he arrived to pull his stands, upset that now he didn't have time to find a new place. We explained to him that he was told months ago. He didn't care. he was just bitter that the land owner decided to not let him lease, for his own personal reasons. It's enough to make you never want to lease again.

Had someone trying to lease one of my spots.... just got the word today I get to hunt it.

Lost my other spot to the landowners grandkids, not much I can say on that one.

I had bought me a new climber and had a spot on public land picked out.

I gave up leasing years ago when land was still $150/acre in Harmon County... Had to live life close to there since.

To be quite honest though, I'm having to hunt some extended family land this year. Local rancher needed pasture to graze cattle, made me a $12/acre offer on 1620 acres... Couldn't resist it. I can still shoot down there (as per the lease agreement, I wouldn't give up the 1600 yd range) but I gave up hunting on it as it's not a good producer of deer.
