Used used used. Private sale.

Screw buying new off the lot. I might do that for my GT-R someday, but I can't fathom much, if any, other time I might buy brand spanking new.
This. Take a friend who knows how to look them over if you don't (buy him a six pack afterward), but you'll save lots by avoiding a dealer. I'm not a fan of used rentals, but then, I know how I treat rentals. :D

I bought a clean 2014 CRV with 44K miles on it. Saved about $9000 over new. Honda's will easily go 300K miles if you service them properly and use good synthetic oil. They used to use a timing belt that needed changed every 60K miles, but now days they use a chain and it's not even in the maintenance schedule. Don't fear buying used, just check out the car you want to buy and save some money. You just can't go wrong with a well maintained Honda.

Look for a dealer program car.
Rental cars used to be good, they always went over them before they sold.
The fact that yours may be fubar doesn't work in your favor (I know i'm captain obvious).
If you can find a local bulletin board or forum for the type car you want post a Want to buy there.
Facebook has some listings too.
If you belong to Sam's or Costco check about buying through them.

Check with the car rental agencies (You can see what they have to offer and the prices on the internet). Enterprise, Hertz are two of the biggest ones, I think Enterprise has no-haggle prices on theirs. I have often thought of buying one of their cars but never have but I do know people that have and I haven't heard any complaints.

Can you go into some more detail on this?

I know Sam's has some dealer affiliations and I assume Costco does too.
I've never gone that way, but I think it may be worth looking in to on a new car, especially if you aren't a haggler.
I would almost volunteer my wife to come be your haggler, but that seems a little unfair to the dealers. :lmfao:
