There are lots of good hiking trails on the river in Austin.

Shopping at The Domaine in Austin

Both Austin and Dallas have Starbucks Reserve.

Jackson Armory near SMU is the best gunshop in the whole region if you like milsurp.

I've talked with several people who stood in line for Hours at Franklin's Barbecue. They all said it was great, because by the time they got it they were VERY hungry.

I've read that others who stood in line were hospitalized for heat exhaustion or malnutrion. Some have died from old age, they're in a better place.
Anyplace is a better place than the line at Franklin's barbeque.
Especially in July.

Texas Rangers Museum in Waco is way cooler than the Dr Pepper Museum IF you go through Waco....and its right off of I35.

Also in Waco is the Mammoth discovery which is cool.

In Austin, the State Capital is cool (and IIRC its the only one bigger than the Federal one)
McBrides is a pretty good gun shop if you wanna see guns, lots of variety last few times I've gone.
Downtown in the evening/night is pretty cool. Congress is a good stroll to go up and down and check the shops/eateries.
People watching along the jogging trails/bike paths near the river is pretty good too.

My wife and I got the town of Henderson, TX to eat a place called Hush Puppies its a bring your own beer place, but its good. Then if we have the time head down to Groves, TX and eat at Baytown Seafood. We really like the east side of Texas and the west side of Louisiana, its beautiful country.
