Any electricians on here that could point me in the right direction?

I have changed around 100 of them in the past from them being in a weather proof box that holds moisture over time and fire ants loves them and gets inside and trips them to the point you have to replace them. Now those inside a building is a little different but for them to be installed outdoors is where i dislike them the most.

I just wonder if this is a 15 amp GFCI outlet on my 20 amp garage circuit? Would be pretty lame, but I guess understandable if I had to get a dedicated line run for my garage appliances.

It probably is a 15amp but that’s common and just fine. Rarely does anything draw a full 20amps and those should have their own circuit and type of plug/outlet. Someone will correct me if I’m wrong about that but I see it a lot.

Yes 15 amp is the most common but on a occasion you will find a 20 amp that someone has put in thinking it would help them to keep it from tripping. I once had a guy that kept tripping a 20 amp breaker and wanted me to install a 30 so it wouldnt trip I told him it wasnt happening unless he wanted to change the wire size also.

FWIW I had only 1 outlet in the garage. When I brought in my small chest freezer I had an electrician add a new dedicated outlet that I only use for the freezer. The other outlet supplies my workbench, a few lights, and some power tools.

If I were to ever build a new house I'd have an oversize garage and probably 3 or 4 extra outlets in it.

Smart move. Know a guy that lost a bunch of meat due to a gfci.

Saw a video of an electrician on YT who said he makes crazy money by resetting GFCI outlets that are on the same circuit, but not what people would expect, after a breaker trips. Basically your exact scanario.
Yeah, we have some in the kitchen and when one trips it kills power to the outlets in one bathroom and one bedroom. It took me a little while to figure out the first time.
