Looks like an old lead joint may be leaking there i know what i would do . while you have the rubber no hub pulled back re tighten and run some water may give a better idea.. good luck plumbing is always 3 trips at least.

Welp, I went to wipe the build up out and discovered the bottom of that pipe is rusted out pretty much all the way to the wall

True dont mean any think adverse. sink isn't bad either especially if you can find one to fit existing hole.
