Epa........ There's a ton of diesel offerings in the very same vehicles we drive here over seas. We can't have them though.

The way the EPA measures the pollutants from a car is so much per gallon of gas,
not so much per mile. That makes car makers run vehicles so rich to make the catalytic converters
clean up the exhaust.
If you compared the pollutants per mile, or per life time, I am sure a lot of these engine emissions
would be better off then the engines we have.

This is how it was explained to me by an engineering professor

I had a couple of VW diesels back in the late 70 early 80. 1.8 liter 50 mpg and ran forever. also had a BMW diesel that ran like a striped ass ape and got 40 something,again in the 80's. good ol EPA
