Pretty irresponsible of a gun owner. We all need to be aware at all times where our gun is if not on us with the same rigor as keeping our finger off the trigger until on target.

I learned not to dare tell anyone on this forum to stop leaving their damn guns in their vehicles the last time this came up. Lots of butthurt incoming.

Probably right. The mistake you made is telling someone else what to do with their property. The risk is there it might be stolen, the risk is there you might need it on the way to or from the gun free zone. The only near certainty is the criminal stealing or using it will be dealt with lightly, if at all.

Never a good idea to leave guns in cars. With the electronic locks, etc., cars are just not secure.

So when you go somewhere, but you know guns aren’t allowed do you leave the guns at home? Is your home any more secure than a car?

I see there’s a bill pending in Oklahoma to raise the penalty for gun theft from a maximum of three years to five. I bet very few, if any, criminals have been sentenced to the three-year max so the new law probably won’t be very effective.

No joke. If a thief breaks into a car, and steals a gun, robs a store with it, kills the employee, the employee leaves a pregnant widow behind, T.W. starts coming by to check on the mother to be, next thing you know T.W. is staying home with the baby while the widowed mom turns tricks to support the heroin habit she picked up after her late husband's funeral. Three years later T.W. is on the news for abusing a three year old and the widowed mother gets probation for enabling the abuse of her late husband's child.

And none of this would have happened if the irresponsible gun owner had simply not left his gun in the car.

We generally agree that the traditional 4 rules of firearms safety are there to protect life and property.

But, nobody here wants to be told that they are expected to be responsible when their 2A rights or property is concerned.

Blaming criminals for stolen guns is a red herring.
