Damn, that's a lot on a dehydrator. I guess if you save a bunch on groceries, it's worth it, eh?

That's what I'm thinking. Freeze drying and dehydrating are two different creatures. I think both have a place in a home garden/small livestock/raise your own food type situation. I'm NOT a big fan of traditional canning. Watching your grandmother very nearly die from botulism (home-canned green beans) will do that to ya.

The first time I looked at these (when they first came out) they were $10k.

I don't blame him. I eat up the Robertson's jerky pretty darn fast.

I have had dehydrated okra and it's pretty darn good.

The medium one puts up a lot more than I think I will have from the garden for the first few years but it's hard not to justify the extra volume I can put up with the medium as opposed to the small for just a couple hundred more.

I'm not a big fan of canning and my dehydrator stays pretty busy with jerky. I've dehydrated berries but didn't really care for them rehydrated, especially my blackberries. Didn't care too much for dehydrated asparagus either.

Anyhooooo ... they have a pretty liberal layaway program ... and they are having a sale so ... no time like the present. Should have it this fall to tinker with. Whoot! Yeah me!

Def want to try your first dehydrated ice cream... you know astronauts ate that right...

I have had dehydrated okra and it's pretty darn good.

Never dehydrated it, but we've baked it in the oven without oil. That delicious okra flavor is still there.

Just make sure ya cook it until the slime is gone.
