Under what circumstances would it be okay to carry a rifle or shotgun in public for self defense?

    To apply enough force that you are able to break the force applied by gravity on the mass of the firearm to create forward momentum. :D

    Nah, the result is the forward momentum. The purpose of carrying said unloaded firearm is to achieve the forward momentum.
