I would go a bit farther and point out that in ~4 billion years the sun will deplete it's supply of hydrogen and begin to fuse helium into carbon instead.
The outer shell of the sun will swell many times in size and begin to envelope the earth in a scorching atmosphere that boils the oceans away, turns mountains into cinders, and ends all life on earth.
Over an even longer time scale, the universe will continue to expand forever.
The stars and galaxies in the sky will recede from view leaving only a dark empty vacuum of space.
After trillions of years even matter will begin to evaporate and dissolve.
Eventually all that will be left is a cold dark universe of sub-atomic particles with no structure, and no one to care that anything we ever knew existed.
So, if you find it convenient to dump your used motor oil in a bar ditch along side the road, I doubt it makes much difference in the long run.
