The only way that works for me when I apply myself is to throw out all the stuff in the house I can’t eat and shouldn’t eat. Scorched earth.
If you can’t do that because of the unhealthy bastards you live with in your house, then take over one shelf in the fridge, and one kitchen cabinet. Stock it up And only eat from there. Never any fast food. 100% never.
And don’t think low carb, think high glycemic index carbs. Beans quinoa brown rice even a slice of rye bread or whole grain English muffin ain’t bad. Just stay away from white fat boy bread.
read about the Mediterranean diet
Simple eating is simple cheap brown rice is cheap, olive oil is cheap, and a pound of 90% lean beef or any meat is cheap and should last you 4 meals. Eggs are cheap. A dozen is 4-5 meals. If you
Like fish you’re really in luck. I hate any fish that I don’t catch myself.
And then level with your self that you won’t have as many things to eat as you used to and deal with it as a grown man. Look at it like Food is fuel. You’re a machine, even a Lamborghini just eats one thing. Besides money. If you want to have a guilty pleasure Because your food is boring then might I suggest pornhub. Lol.
Or tea, or fly tying. Or exercise or writing in a journal. Or save it for a nightly shoot of scotch, or bit of tobacco
Healthy eating and good living is a huge paradigm shift of lifestyle for most people.
And I’m Catholic. When I eat bad or don’t take care of myself, I just ask for forgiveness from God and move on. There is no failure just because you eat bad (or sin). Cause we’re all bad eaters and sinners.
and I’m writing this 98% for my benefit cause I need the advice prob more than you.
Do you take offerings?

My wife and I went on vacation and my wife ran into an Aldi's and she came out empty handed. She said it was like a Dollar General store but for food. Random food and brands on the shelves and then the no-bag checkout. Said it was very weird to say the least.

Aldi is unusual compared to a "real" supermarket.
It's kind of small and doesn't have everything but the prices are good and I've been well satisfied with everything I've bought there.
I've cut way back on sugar and sweets but around the holidays Aldi sells candy, cookies, etc from Europe.
When I was a glutton their European holiday stuff had real butter, real cream, etc.
And year round their Benton (house brand) cookies are EXACTLY like some name brand cookies only cheaper.
They sell very few recognizable brand names at Aldi.

Their peanut butter cookies are my weakness. I try to limit myself to a couple cookies a week but I want a couple packages a week. :P

I don't eat a lot of brown rice but to go along with what Gunbuffer said, I keep something filling that has fiber like pinto beans or black beans handy. You can add a bit of that to most anything - soup, other vegetables, or pour a scoop over your salad (cause lettuce won't hold me for long).
I soak and make a batch of beans, some soup or whatever in the crock pot, then divide it up in small containers. I try to keep it on hand so I can heat it up, then I won't eat fast food. I can microwave some leftovers quicker than going to the drive through.
If you want to read a book about low glycemic carbs, the original version of "Sugar Busters" (from the 1990s) is good, written by diabetes researchers at Tulane University in Louisiana.
A quick, easy read. You can find it used on Amazon or Ebay, the library may have it.
The revised version "New Sugar Busters" is longer winded and doesn't add anything, IMO.

Barley is a good choice too. Lower on the index than brown rice and you can do anything with it that you would rice. I switch back and forth between them because there is a little difference in taste.

Still experimenting with CarbQuick basic biscuit recipe. Swapped 1 cup heavy cream for the 2/3 cup water and got lite fluffy biscuits. Went great with sausage gravy.
