I love sheppards but I don't know if I can deal with the hair. How bad is it? I definitely see a sheppard or a lab in my life a year from now after I get a bigger place.
Deal with the hair, but may I suggest something, and I am old but we have had tile floors for years and the hair is less mess with tile than carpet, and I know people love the look of wood floors? Well, I trust the tile over the wood, the wood will hide the fleas, etc, tile will not, just saying, from experience. You will appreciate tile more, but what the hell do I know?
