Politicians will stop at nothing to get their names in the media. Nothing is too ridiculous or far-fetched and nothing is off limits.

In addition the thread Title is misleading, driving isn't necessarily a simple privilege.

At this time (and for many years) you have had the right to go from point "A" to point "B" and anywhere in between, but to do that by using a motor vehicle that you are operating, has been a privilege. Using a horse, bicycle, are in most cases still a right, but you must have the proper liciense to drive. When a liciense is no longer required, then it will be right.

This seems highly highly stupid to me. Yes quite a few people drop out of school, but there are different reasons. Some have events that make them such as family crisis, etc. Others are just plain lazy. Punish those who are already being taxed by tragic events in order to target those who are plain lazy.

I don't see it making a difference, I see it as a method that will put more unlicensed, uninsured drivers on the road at the expense of those properly licensed and insured. There are just far too many negatives to this.

That's the most asinine thing I've read in a while.

<foilhat> It's almost as if the government wants to create and enable a permanent and government dependent underclass.</foilhat>

A better law would be no food stamps, section 8, welfare without HS diploma. To get rid of the welfare baby factories.

I agree with this especially, and everything everyone above .45fats said.

Bad, all bad. How totally retarded do politicians have to be???

I'm doped up on coffee :coffee2: and tired... I didn't sleep well last night; so someone help me here... I can't think of ANYTHING good that could possibly be the result of this?

Think of the great effect this will have on child obesity!:rolleyes2 That's a lot of walking!

It's not like it would keep any of them from driving anyway. :grumble:

QFT ...

There are a LOT of parents out there who need a peach tree to get switches off of.

My kids were just like every other teen-agers on the planet ... totally unmotivated to do anything other than eat, sleep, play video games and watch the ocassional porn flick. You make them miserable enough at home (and I don't mean abuse or neglect them) they find something else to do ... like get their GEDs, get a job and get out of the house! LOL ;)

I'm only half-joking here. I love my kids with all my heart but I did NOT want them dependent on me for every damned thing they were ever gonna need. It was NOT easy ... teenagers are obstinent (and smart).

Once they were old enough to get a job they lost their allowance. I was glad to take them to work and go pick them up until they had saved enough to buy a vehicle of their own. (Actually a couple of them lost their allowance a few years earlier because of a little crime spree they went on :grumble: but that's another story.) I wouldn't help them buy a vehicle but did pay the insurance for them once they had it. I have helped all three of them financially once they were out on their own but they know that I am not an open checkbook.

It's not easy. Sometimes you gotta do the hard thing and let them fall ... and sometimes they really don't like you much for it. But I would rather they stand over my grave on their own two feet and say "What a ***** she was" than stand over my grave saying "Oh, woe is me ... whose gonna take care of me now".
