Soren, best of luck! I know you have been through the mill the last couple of years for your son, and know how much you treasure your time with him. It's funny, but these always seem to work out, usually better than it was before.

I made the same decision about 13 years ago - stuck on swing, making good money. Kids were little, and my wife had to work evening shifts. I took a pay cut, walked away from union seniority, and it turned out to be one of the best moves I could ever make. You'll do fine - you have your priorities straight!

You might look into whether you qualify to be an Airworthiness Inspector for FAA in Flight Standards. I don't know the exact requirements, but they will eventually hire again, and it can be a good gig. It's not an immediate fix for you, but could be a long term career opportunity.
