There's such a thing as an Honorable discharge. There's also a Dishonorable and a Other than Honorable. There might be a few others as well. Your conduct kinda determines how you go out. Soldiers are expected to perform their duty in an Honorable way. Officers are even held to a higher standard than enlisted. Even in war time, it's rather easy to get an Honorable discharge....ya just follow orders and do your job and come home. Millions have done it without disobeying orders or putting themselves in the spotlight.

The military does a good job policing their own with civilian leadership overseeing the process. Ya really gotta screw up pretty bad to get this much publicity.

Have you ever committed murder or had an abortion or been in a gay marriage or abused a child or ran for president? Well, you don't get an opinion on any of those matters. Is that how it works. Sorry, but that's childish and simplistic.

He wasnt saying your opinion was invalid, just uninformed by the benefit of experience.

A better analogy would be asking your if you are a licensed pilot. If no, then your opinion on how to fly an airplane is judged accordingly.

If you look at the case, one man testified to keep from getting charged with murder, one man testified saying he doesn't know exactly what happened, and then the Army's own expert said he agreed with the defense on what happened that day.

Not exactly. The expert didn't testify.

To be fair, he should not have put himself in that position to begin with. He made the choice to protect his men, by disobeying his orders, falsifying the after action report, and destroying evidence. All of which led to his conviction and sentence.
Personally, I applaud his actions while damning his conduct. This statement will make no sense to many, but Im betting you get it.

While I agree, these actions do not a murderer make.
