Whitey, I'll repeat what GMT said - Springfield EMP!

If I was to go with a polymer .45, it'd be the M&P 45c. Good gun. The guys over at 10-8 and m4carbine love the M&P 45 series.

I had several Glocks including a G36, but sold them all. I just didn't care for the feel; it was like picking up a brick in all cases except for the G36. Now that one felt decent in my hand, but pulling the trigger made me feel like someone had smacked my open palm with a length of 2x4. After shooting one magazine, my hand would be stinging. Worst handgun I've ever shot for that one reason. I'll take a Kimber or Springfield compact 1911 any day!

The Glock 36 is the last gun I would get rid of, I do really like it.
I have G26, 33, 19 and the 36, I carry the 36. I have had numerous guns
over the last 40 some years and have sold all of them except the Glocks.
And that has include some high dollar, Wilsons, Kimbers and Colts. As I got
older I just want one type of firearm to get use to and know inside and out
so I stayed with the Glock and the others bought me several AR type rifles
and a boat load of ammo. But then everyone as a story, that is mine and I
am sticking to it.

The other selling point for me, was the availibility of aftermarket support. Any gunsmith is going to have the basic parts for Glocks, as well as any upgrades you might want. Also, when it comes to CC, I'm not looking for feel, fit, or finish. I want a 100% reliable, no safety, double action shooter, that I can fire scared, dizzy, and hurt.

+1 on the berreta comment, my M-9 (92F) was ultra reliable even dirty.
