I didn't want to BS in the classifieds but there is one brand of heat tape and I can't think of the name, but it looks like stainless steel braiding over a blue electrical wire that I feel works the best. It is a scaled down version of what they use on the Alsakan pipeline. Morrow-Gill lumber in Sand Springs used to sell it.

Thanks. He's struggling a little right now and thought some one might have some used tape they would sell for cheap. I'll probably just have to go buy some for him and put it on his tab.
