Aman. Sister.

The more you participate the better the forum is. Each section of OSA is inhabited by different personalities. I Lurked for years n just LMAO at the characters and conversations. I got to see personalities, who was fun, who was serious, who to avoid ect. Theres so much more to OSA than one little sub forum.

My advice for the "newer" crowd is to grow thick skin, dont be insulting, visit other sections and keep an open mind. Share your knowledge, participate, have a sense of humor. Start a thread, nurse it along, let it develope. Make friends. Get to know a "internet" personality. Im not "Lurker66" in real life. Other than a couple of forums, i dont talk about prepping, guns or debate over pointless topics. I do tell storys, laugh and share lifes experiences with friends.

A wise "old timer" once told me: think of OSA like a barbershop, lotsa different characters, all gathering in one spot, who share a common interest.

Lastly, just for Mike 60, Would a real "raider" go around telling everybody he aint got potatos on Xmas, drinks poison wine or scoots across the yard to clean his butt? If you knew me, youd know a cookie jar is about the only thing that its in danger of me raiding.

People suck.

This is turning into my kind of thread.

Good thing he mentioned community and bartering.

Good thing I wasnt directly addressing him. Look at most of the prepper mentality that you see on TV and even hear from members of this forum. I would say that majority see themselves as creating a shell, crawling inside and standing alone. When it comes to sustainability, community and bartering should be at the top and facets of each should be parts of most of your other sustainability bullet points.

I agree that a single family can't make it on their own. Or most likely won't. Depending on each other and forming a community before things go sideways is a must. At least that's how I feel.

Your right on the money Jakerz. I know way to many people that are really trying to prepare, but they are planning to bunker up at home. I can see too many scenarios where that just won't work. Maybe it won't get that bad here in OK. It sure will in other parts of the country. I know how close we are to the southern boarder of this country. I read about how large the gang population is in this state. I read about the terrorist cell north of Tulsa that is full of Muslim extremists. We have plenty to worry about right here in our own back yard.

Civilization is a thin veil, you saw it in the LA Riots, in New Orleans, in NY and that area after Sandy. The MSM didn't show what was really going on. The looting, the fights and shootings at gas stations and grocery stores. The bands of roving gang bangers taking what they wanted. The MSM won't let their beloved leader look bad.

I tried to start this thread to motivate people, to show those that haven't opened their eyes to the possibilities things they could face and what they could do to prepare. Bugging out with no place to go is not an answer either. How many people with their go-bags and packs have actually strapped one on and tried walking for a day across rough terrain, especially if they have small children. I see the waist line of the average person today, bad feet, bad backs, bad hearts. 24 hours of that, especially in this weather, with no secure place to go?

I don't claim to know it all, never did. But collectively, as a community, people on this board do have knowledge. Were they willing to share that knowledge and work together to help one another, to help ourselves and our families? I just don't see it happening, which makes me sad.

THEY have done their job, THEY have succeeded in tearing down the fabric that made this country great. THEY have divided us in every way possible, no one knows their neighbors, no one trusts anyone else any more. If we can't trust one another now, work together now, how will be ever be able to do so after TSHTF. You think this might just be by design? Or is that too 'tin foil hat' for most people.

I have my community, I have had to build it. It was not easy, nothing worthwhile ever is. Hopefully others can do the same, that is the only way to survive if things truly do get that bad.
