One of my favorite areas to ride! Enjoy! Have a buddy who got his leg kicked by one of the donkeys there years ago! Broke his leg when he pulled next to one on his Dual Sport Bike. Scared the ass and it turned and kicked the **** out of him! 2nd day of riding for 3 weeks we were out. He spent it with a broken leg. Love Cripple Creek, Florissant and Woodland Park area. Have a buddy lives in Florissant.
Wow. What luck.
That would ruin my day.
I brought my XR650l and my some has his DR650 so we're doing a lot of riding.
I'll stay away from the burros.

They're building a massive casino on Main Street in Cripple Creek, covers like 4 blocks.
They are ruining that town.
But I remember what it used to be 40 yrs ago.

Victor is still a cool little town.
I rolled in there on a dirt bike back in 1976, looking for food and gas.
Got a malt at the Fortune club which is still there.
Such a awesome place! Really hasn't changed much and well preserved.
Many friends there.
Go to the German bakery and broom shop!

I highly recommend taking the tour thru the huge Newmont mine.
That's the massive strip mine in between the two towns.
They're hollowing out the mountain. Like a root canal.
Still pulling out millions in gold.

Shelf Road up to Cripple Creek is a nice trail/drive. The whole gambling/casino thing was always part of it. Just a matter of time before it turns into a mini las vegas

Also, consider the Phantom Canyon Road that runs from east of Canon City off of Highway 50 and goes up to Victor, CO (just east of Cripple Creek.) More than once I've driven the "loop" of both of those roads, first going up Phantom Canyon Road then over to Cripple Creek to catch Shelf Road to get back to Canon City.

Roadside on Shelf Road.

Phantom Canyon Road has been built on an old railroad route running from the mines.
