For those that like stuffed cabbage, but don't like the effort...
UNSTUFFED CABBAGE ROLLS
1 ½ to 2 pounds ground deer or meat of choice
1 tablespoon oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 small cabbage, chopped
2 cans (14.5 ounces each) diced tomatoes
1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 to 1 ½ cups Cooked rice (I prefer wild rice mixture)
Your hot sauce of choice
You need a large skillet w/lid
Cook ground meat and onion in oil, stirring, until meat is no longer pink and onion is tender. Add garlic and continue cooking for 1 minute. Add chopped cabbage, tomatoes, tomato sauce, pepper, and salt. Bring to a boil. Cover, lower heat and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Add rice. Season to your taste w/ hot sauce if desired, but good without it.
Serves 6 to 8 (or 2-3 in my family )
If you don't have a skillet large enough, use a large covered pot...
