The republicans gained control of the senate in1995 and held it until 2001.

You mention 1995 was a fiasco. Yes it was, for the democrats!

The .gov shutdown of 95 began on Nov 14th, after the elections, and lingered on into Jan 96.

If someone tries to convince you the GOP won the senate because of the shutdown they are trying to manipulate you.
I'm just trying to keep you from being led astray by the talk show con artists who don't deal from a straight deck.

The first week all the national parks closed and passport and visa applications stopped being processed.
It gradually went downhill from there.
As Karl mentions, that was with the military funded for the entire upcoming year which is not the case this time.

Ummmmm it was 2006 before the Democrats took the senate and it was the republican revolution of 1994 where Republicans took both houses of congress for the first time in 40 years. IDK where your info came from but it is wrong.

Yup. 94 they took over control of both houses for the first time in 40 years. They lost some seats in 96 and 98 but maintained control. 2000 is when the Senate became split.

I was wondering what kind of time warp/rewriting was going on in this thread...

The only people a government shutdown will hurt in the long run is the political types that thrive on more and more tax dollars being taken. A good case in point is the sequester. Remember all the doom and gloom predictions before it happened? Well the world has not ended and millions are not starving in the streets.

EDIT: And polls say both sides will share the blame.
