I work for the federal government and I want a shutdown. Unpaid or not, I could use some time away from this place. It's become downright deemoralizing. :(

Everything I've read insists it is only "non-essential" personnel and functions. What exactly that is, I'm not certain.
I know that when we get told that all non-essential personnel can go home due to the weather, my butt stays put in my office. I'm not getting my name on the "first out the door when the budget cuts come" list. ;)

I keep hearing about the big shutdown in the '90s and how the Republicans paid for it. You know, I remember the '90s pretty well, and I don't recall seeing any effects of a shutdown. The Republicans certainly didn't lose power over it...

This is the kind of thing that tells me the government is out of control and needs to be shut down.

The little-noticed provision would pay the widow of the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg – who was a millionaire -- $174,000 in tax-free funds. The payment is part of a time-honored practice of paying out death benefits to lawmakers' families.

The House, which voted to cut $40 billion from food stamps over the next decade and is locked in a stand-off over de-funding ObamaCare, would so easily pony up thousands of dollars for this benefit payment. Not all lawmakers are independently wealthy, but Lautenberg was among the wealthiest.

According to Roll Call’s 2012 annual survey of congressional wealth, which is based on 2011 financial disclosure reports, Lautenberg’s estimated net worth was $56.8 million.

This kind of thing is normal for members of both parties and the Senate will approve it.

Well I'm at work for free today. All leave is cancelled and they claim that calling in sick will result in automatic disciplinary action. Our payroll specialists are getting their notices and going home today, so payroll will not be processed for this week and last.

Yeah me... :(

Most of my buddies went, signed some paperwork and got sent home. You can't take sick or vacation, as thats a benefit. As far as being disciplnied...probably, but again, its a benefit and it'd have to be approved anyway.

Sorry comrades!

I know how that goes. My GF went in to work at 6:00 am, will work most of the day, won't get paid for today or last week until...well, who knows?
