We were on GlobalHealth in 2009 ... DON'T DO IT ... it is a disaster. Whatever you would be saving in premiums you will lose if you EVER have to see a specialist for anything ... and there is not a single PCP on the plan that will treat you ... they will ALL send you to a specialist for anything more involved than a stubbed toe.

Not only that, but every time you need to see the specialist you will have to go back to your PCP to get a referral ... at least that is what happened to us and we changed PCPs 3 times that year trying to find a decent one.

We went back to CommunityCare this last year (and our old PCP). And that is where we are staying next year too.

I'm on Community care now and they are dropping all of the Mercy Hospital people so I either have to change insurance tohave the same pcp or stick with Community care and have a Saints PCP.

Were you on the standard or alternative plan with Global.

Really?? My doc is in the mercy health system and we haven't heard that ... Might need to do some checking myself then. I was less than impressed with Saints when we were on GlobalHealth. Much prefer Mercy or Baptist ... danggit ...

I want to say we were on the Standard plan with Global but gosh, I am not sure. Let me go back and see if I can find some records from back then. It will be in the morning before I can get back with you.

I have heard nothing good about Globalhealth. Agree w/ BB.

I don't like HMO's. Reminds me of this:

Three people die, a Doctor a school teacher and the head of a large HMO, when met at the pearly gates by St. Peter he asks the Doctor 'what did you do on Earth?'

The Dotor replied, I healed the sick and if they could not pay I would do it for free. St. Peter told the Doctor, 'you may go in.'

St. Peter then asked the teacher what she did, she replied, I taught educationally challenged children. St. Peter then told her 'you may go in.'

St. Peter asked the third man, 'what did you do?' The man hung his head and replied, 'I ran a large HMO.'

To which St. Peter replied, 'you may go in, but you can only stay 3 days.'

I've had Global Heath HMO for 4 years and it as good or bad as any HMO I have used. All HMO plans require you to have a PCP (gatekeeper) and they have to refer you to any specialists. Only Aetna Free Access HMO didn't require referrals but that plan cost an arm and a leg, I mean 3 times what Global cost. Your choice of specialist is limited on Global and they can be picky about what prescriptions you can have. Wife does good on Nexium but they made her switch to Prilosec which doesn't work as well and won't approve Nexium no matter what her PCP or specialist says. I plan to shop around this open season but the doctors office said all of the health plans had limitations and basically suck.

i don't have it, but we take it at my clinic...having said that, there are often complaints from patients about it's (lack of) coverage.

not sure I know of a "good" insurance company.

I just got a letter from CommunityCare today affirming that their network will consist of St. Anthony hospital, bone and joint and physicians who are members or affiliates of the Saints medical group.

I am going to look into Pacificare, had them before, had problems, but the problems were mainly due to Mercy Hospital's billing procedure. I suffered no financial loss.
