Here's the skinny on tomorrows actions.

High points:
Use Dr.s against us.
Gun Trusts to be scrutinized
Sell a handful of firearms, you're a dealer..

Hold onto your hats fellers..

I figure he will try to make it harder to order ammo through the internet in bulk, also. Now, I have ordered two revolvers in two weeks because I have always wanted these two particular ones. But I ordered them so pronto on account of POTUS and his little shindig tomorrow. He gets what he wants, it seems to me, almost every time. He does it by Executive Order. I think he will do his best to cripple gun sales and ammo sales. I don't think anyone has mentioned ammo sales. But nothing he does surprises me too much.

That Smith that I ordered through Buds last week hasn't even shipped, and normally I'd have had it by last Friday.

NICS calls do not include serial nos. Nor do they include make, model, or even caliber of firearm. That info stays with dealer.
This is correct. That info is locked away in a drawer, usually. If you want specific info about a particular purchase, you need two things: very specific information about that purchase (names, dates, etc) or a whole lot of time.

As I understand so far, he is going to require background checks for all gun show and online sales. If you advertise the private sale of your gun online, or sell it at a large gathering of people looking to buy, and it requires that you do a background check, does this mean you have to be licensed or that you have to go to an FFL or something? I didn't see any explanation for that. This is nothing more than him trying to limit access.

And I also wonder how many of you have your firearms insured? That mostly requires that you give the company the make, model, and serial number. That would be the single best place for them to start looking for current owners if they wanted to ever start a registry.

Although States generally report criminal history information to NICS, many continue to report little information about individuals who are prohibited by Federal law from possessing or receiving a gun for specific mental health reasons. Some State officials raised concerns about whether such reporting would be precluded by the Privacy Rule issued under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Today, the Department of Health and Human Services issued a final rule expressly permitting certain HIPAA covered entities to provide to the NICS limited demographic and other necessary information about these individuals.

I don't see how this equates to "Use Dr.s against us." But then, I'm sure to be hit by a falling piece of sky as soon as I step outside my door.

I've asked before and I'll ask again... what exactly are we to do to prevent people with mental health issues from obtaining firearms they can then use to commit massacres like some of the ones we've seen over the years? Seriously... what EXACTLY, if not reporting specific mental health data to NICS and/or the federal government. Give us some ideas. Tell us how we can assure these people don't have access to firearms WITHOUT doing this?

This absolutely 100% totally and completely does NOT mean anyone with a diagnosis of depression or anxiety in their medical files, or anyone on an anti-depressant or anti-anxiety medication is automagically going to have their 2nd Amendment rights taken away. It just isn't like that at all, in spite of what some people would have you believe.

I hope you're right. But then the definition of a gun dealer just got redefined to encompass just about anyone who sells just one or two guns...
