I'm flying in some stone crab claws this week. No cook required and some of THE best meat I've ever put in my mouth! That was from Joe's of Miami though. Hope these mail order ones are as good. Joe's is too proud of their mail order claws.

It got that name in Raichlen's world when he experienced it at Burnco BBQ in Tulsa. He makes a specific reference to Burnco in the segment. "Bacon explosion" may be descriptive but you can't beat a good alliterative name.

I have just been calling them "Fatties" for years. Done everything from sausage breakfast ones to hamburger taco spiced ones. It is hard to make a bad one. They are handy to have around sliced up in the freezer for a quick sandwich.

I made a pvc plunger arrangement to mix up some goodies and chill then I can easily roll the sausage or burger meat around it. I use a gallon zip bag to shape my square and roll with. I do seem to have a hard time finding bacon strips long enough to wrap my final product like I would like. Sometimes roll corner to corner. I did have a cheese leak from an end once, did not like that.

Seems like I was on a site where some research was done on the name and the furthest back they could find was a reference that originally a lady posted with the "Bacon Explosion" name. Stuffed bacon wrapped meat loaf would work also, they are good by any name.

Thanks for sharing, "Tulsa Torpedo," humm, I like that.

Best recipe for chicken fried steak? Y'all in OK are supposed to be experts...

I think most folks' recipe for CFS starts with "get in your car and drive the most direct route to ******** (fill in favorite CFS restaurant)" but it's possible there are a few here willing to go the DIY route in order to achieve culinary Nirvana. The thing is that it's not just about the CFS, the cream gravy is equally critical to the proper experience. Throw in the extended discussion on the proper sides to present with the CFS (various greens, beans, fried okra, potatoes in various forms, etc.) and you've got a reason for nearly an entire website, not just a forum thread.
