I have a whole bunch of them and not one is younger than 90....most are before turn of the century....I have yet to grow the balls enough to put one on my face yet. I want to but I just cant yet....

I am wondering who uses them round here....

I just use a safety razor. I don't feel like making the initial investment to get into straight razors. DEs are cheap enough; I spent $20 on a big pack of blades a year and a half ago and it looks like I'm good through the summer at least.

Go to Badger and Blade for answers to any questions about razors, brushes, cream, soap, aftershaves, etc.

some of the secrets to a barber shop shave is the hot towel's first. Let the wiskers get good and soft. In barber school we would hot towel, lather, hot towel, lather again then shave our customer. Its a dull razor that cuts you.

Oh yeah.

I think that's one of the things I miss about the NCO club barber shop. The hot towel, lather, shave routine. It's one of the most refreshing feelings you can have.

I've never tried it myself, but I'd love to get a good straight razor and try it out.

I use a Soligen straight 90% of the time, unless I am in a hurry. There is definitely a learning curve to it but nothing compares to a straight shave. Prep, good lather and a sharp razor is the key. I sharpen with a Norton 4000-8000 and a Russian Red leather strop.

I used to soak a washcloth and then microwave it for 30 seconds. It worked pretty well. Also try working some Barbasol into your beard before putting the washcloth on.

perfectly legal in Oklahoma. Try a hot lather - steam towel - straight razor shave by Mark Clay at Clay's Barbershop in the Fontana Shopping Center at 51st & Memorial in Tulsa. www.claysbarbershop.com He shaves by appointment only so call him at 918-859-9709 to schedule one. OBTW he is a FFL so you can order a gun or arrange a transfer while you are getting your next shave.

I love Clays, they do great work.

I used to use an old one I got from my Grandpa. The modern razors gave me ingrown hairs. Haven't used it in ages once I figured out it was just easier to grow a beard and trim it up every once in a while.
