After some deep thought (ha!)...

- If it DOES shoot BBs and DOES NOT shoot pellets, it's a BB gun.

- If the barrel is NOT rifled, technically it CANNOT be a rifle by definition.

- .177 calibers that shoot both BBs and pellets were always promoted as pellet guns or air rifles (as were .22 caliber pellet guns) when I was a kid. That system still works for me.

- .177 caliber darts (do they even make .22 darts?) are irrelevant, unless you have a gun that ONLY shoots these (never heard of one, but I'm sure someone is already Googling it).

Just my 2¢ ... :drunk2:

Shoot at a tin can with a BB gun and then a pellet gun and you can tell the difference, they aren't alike.
I have a .177 caliber Crosman pump-up (760 Powermaster) that shoots both...

EDIT: Ha! Found a pic of one like it (mine lacks the white sticker). :D

I yield, which one has the most penetrating power, the BB or pellet?
Never did a comparison, but I would think the heavier pellet would generally win that contest.

However, it might also depend somewhat on target composition, and whether the pellet would mushroom enough to slow/reduce penetration.

I don't really have the answer...

Here's Benjamin Transition Models (1930s-1997)
pretty sure we had a Benjamin model 312 growing up.
we called it a bb gun as that's what we shot thru it. that and anything else we could load BB sized.

I dunno which is which, but I had a Chinese Pellet Rifle that would punch holes in tin cans all day. It was a pump-gun, it had a charging handle and man, you could sure get some serious power out of the thing if you pumped it a few times. Darn thing was in a safe that got stolen from my house in broad daylight back in 2005.

I’d like to get a pcp air rifle but they aren’t cheap, once you have the rifle you just need compressed air.

I have 2 high end German air rifles in 22cal, a RWS model 34 classic with the t06 trigger (break open).
PS you don’t want to try cocking this between your legs or the cock may get an uncock in an unpleasant manner :scream:

The middle one is a RWS model 48 t06 sidewinder both rifles will put a pellet around 950 FPS. In times like these I like target shooting my steel targets in the backyard rather it just rained or not. This one is the most expensive. I believe these are better quality than a lot of rifles, they will certainly last many generations if taken care of.

Last my ole 10 pump crossman 760. Shot many squirrels and targets. Still shoots good for a gun I purchased in the early 80’s.

we all may be shooting air guns before long, better hurry before the big rush.:hot:2CC56D9D-2AA4-47DE-8002-D6C9B9A2C54F.jpeg
