I consolidated. Got rid of .380, .40S&W, 7.62X39, .308 and 20ga. Just dropping 5 calibers made things a lot easier logistically.

I kept:

.22LR
.32 ACP (no need for a lot of ammo for it, but I still have about 450 :) )
9mm
.38/.357
.44 Mag
.45 ACP
5.56
30-06 (several spam cans of Greek M2 ball for the 55' HRA M1)
45-70 (no need for a lot of ammo for it either)
16ga (nostalgic, not really a regular shooter, about 6 boxes of birdshot on hand)
12ga (rarely used anymore, about 400 rounds on hand for it, mostly #6 and # 8 shot, with a few boxes of slug & buck)

I've been toying with the thought of dumping the revolver calibers as well (I know, heresy!). It's just that I rarely shoot them anymore and there's nothing they do for me that my auto calibers won't cover. That would simplify my logistics down to .22, 9mm and .45 ACP for handguns. Of course, getting rid of the .44 Mag would tempt me to get a 10mm for hand cannon use. :)

Thoughts?

I love the idea
Currently have

.22 lr
.22 mag - just a little for the convertible.
.223
.308
7.62x39
7.5 x 55 - for the K31. It's a keeper
9mm
.45
38/357
12g

Dang. I was pretty sure that list would be shorter when I started and that doesn't even include my fiancées ammo.

Eucalyptus
Paradise Punch
Black Raspberry Vanilla
Sun kissed Citrus
Clean Breeze
Home Sweet Home

Ya. I use her scentsy collection as justification for buying guns and ammo.

Right now I stash 5.56 ammo for long term storage, meanwhile I stockpile commercial .223 for plinking and shooting. I buy a box of Black Hills 77gr OTM Mk262 rounds in 5.56 here and there whenever midway usa gets them in stock.

I keep a small supply of 180gr self defense ammo for .40S&W I keep stored away. Those are really the only 2 calibers I actively try to store and conserve. Once I stop buying rifles, I'll buy a Glock 19 and will stockpile some 9mm self defense loads, as well.

I have tons of 7.62x39 that I have just sitting around that I haven't shot off yet. It's weird that i have so much of it, when I don't really conserve it and blow through more 7.62x39 than any other round. I also have a spam can of 7.62x54r for my bubba'd Mosin Nagant.

Soon I will probably get a spam can or two of 5.45x39 ammo. I only got a handful of .22lr and 12 gauge ammo.

You newbies really think you reinvent the wheel with these questions. lol

You have the essentials and thats good, I just started collecting a year or so ago so my calibers are really skimpy. :(

I have: 9mm, .45, and 12ga

Im working on adding: .22lr (Marlin and a Buckmark), .357mag (S&W 686), and .223

With those I can pretty much handle any practical applications.

For me I store up mostly on 223 and .40 caliber just because those are the two guns right now I trust carry and always depend on but also have quite a bit of 30-30 270 and the 22 if needed

I have gotten out of a few calibers over the years. I doubt that I would get back into most of them.
7 mag
300 WSM
38/357
9mm
25 WSSM
45/70 (but I had to get right back into it. Love that thump!)
223 (got out of it but ended up back in again too.)

Not really looking to let go of any calibers or gauges I have now. I doubt that I will buy into any new round but you never know.

I try to bulk up on 40, 45, 22-250, 308. More components than loaded ammo usually. Just keep a couple hundred for the odds and end calibers.
