Well you edited your post to include this so I'll reply separately. Once again you're not answering my question at all. You would seriously rather die than live in Sweden?

Also please explain the historical context in which Patrick Henry said that, and then explain how it relates to government-provided healthcare.
I'm not sure who you are or why you're insisting that I am somehow required to respond and answer your questions, as ridiculous and irrelevant as they may be.

I've paid through the nose for several surgeries over the years. Some of those surgeries would not have been possible without procedures developed right here in the USA. I'd have to check but I don't think any of the technology used was developed in Canada or Sweden. As I stated previously, I favor capitalism over socialism in every circumstance. There is no historical evidence to make me doubt that position.

I also favor individual responsibility. In most cases, some sort of medical coverage is available to people. Far too many people choose things like cigarrettes, cable tv, internet, cell phones, etc. to paying for insurance premiums and then cry foul when they need it and don't have it. In my business that is the case about 75% of the time. Beyond that, no ER that I know of will turn anyone away. Most ERs write off the majority of bills to customers who can't pay. There are exceptions to the rule as in any case. Those exceptions are hardly motivation enough for me want to turn the entire system over to our government even though they have done a great job managing the welfare system, social security, etc., etc.

Agreed, as soon as the Dr. in the free clinic writes a script for meds or refers you to a specialist, without a job, insurance or state or federal aid of some sort you are baiscally SOL

Incorrect. I know several people getting their meds for free that were prescribed by a free clinic. One of them is a former employee and by law in all 50 states, any acute care is rendered in emergency rooms. Furthermore, public hospitals will provide long term care on a tailored repayment plan customized to someone's financial situation. This means that people without the means to pay get the care free. Hospitals have charity lines of funds designed to defray these expenses that comes from what the rest of us pay.

EDIT: To be fair I must say that I would love to see a system where if a doctor gets a student loan through the government, they are required to pay it back by putting in time at a free clinic.

So you would rather die than live in Sweden?

Just for fun, answer this question with a "yes" or a "no"

Here's a big part of what's wrong,

DoJ Recovers $3 Billion in FY 2010 FCA Cases
The Department of Justice has announced that in FY 2010, the U.S. Government recovered $3 billion in False Claims Act settlements and judgments.
Of the $3 billion recovered, health care civil fraud recoveries accounted for $2.5 billion of the total (83 percent).
The $3 billion recovered under the federal False Claims Act is actually an underestimate of the total amount recovered, as DoJ data does not include criminal fines or state portions of Medicaid settlements in its calculations.
DoJ notes that most successful False Claims Act cases are brought to the government by whistleblowers, and that the False Claims Act remains "the federal government’s primary weapon in the battle against fraud."

I was hoping you could fix those folks up with some of that Free Healthcare you were offering earlier in this thread Rick.

I realize your company sells wheelchairs Rick and that your business plan might be in danger of becoming irrelevant.
But we are trying to focus on the big picture here and not just what is best for ourselves financially.

Get off my lawn.
I figure you're not entitled to the services of other people if you can't afford them. If they want to give you that service for free that is great, but the government forcing them to give it to you or burdening the tax payers with it is wrong. Sorry if I sound cold hearted, but I feel like we are responsible for taking care of ourselves. I think we should take care of our brothers and sisters here too if we have extra, but that is up to the individual. Not government mandate.

A buddy of mine in Canada tore his pectoralis major.

After 3 months they told him if he waits 6 more months he can get surgery to fix it.

Of course it's already too late.
