Those are important but an increased minimum wage isn't the answer, at least not in the long term. If it were than everybody would be happy and enjoying a high quality of life now from all the previous hikes in the mandatory minimum wage. Instead what has happened is that it has helped a few and hurt many more, including the fact that inflated wages are a large part of the reason for outsourcing jobs overseas.

I think all wages need to be raised, honestly. A shrinking middle class, with less people at the top amassing more and more money. Yeah, it's easy to see where the problem is. Corporations exploiting workers because they can. A free market doesn't work if all the buinessmen are scum. It's essentially a virtual monopoly.

If you don't allow U.S. companies to manufacture overseas, then they'll just not be U.S. companies. There are just too many countries willing and able to accept them there. It just ain't that easy.

How exactly did we manage up until the late 60s? Better look at our trade practices - and when you see the traitors that championed our current policies, you'll see as many Rs as Ds, if not more.

Ok, great! Let's mandate a 50% increase in ALL wages immediately. Everyone.

Now... what is going to happen to the price of products and services? They will go up in response to offset the additional cost. Period. NO ONE is going to stay in business to LOSE money. What's the answer? Raise wages, raise prices, raise tax revenue, decrease the purchasing power of the dollar.

Yeah... that's the answer.

The U.S. Is the largest consumer nation in the world. We can and should control where the goods we purchase are manufactured...oh wait....we're doing that by shopping at Walmart and similar stores.

We can control where the goods we purchase are manufactured. But, if we insist they be made here, then we must be prepared to pay for it.

It can be done, but our system needs a complete overhaul. It's why I don't compare other coutries to ours except to say what can and cannot be done. Australia has a high minimum wage but they also don't have many of the issues we do.

It's math. There's a lot of problems here that we should not have... But we do because have other problems that contribute to it. You really cannot fix one thing without fixing others. Our system of royally screwed. Government waste and greed are huge contributors.

A government that allows US companies to manufacture good overseas, then sell the crap back on the American market got us here. We've cut our own throat.
Better watch it Ted. Here on OSA you're a liberal pansy if you don't blame all economic problems and wage issues on Mexicans and Unions.

Fast fashion and other changes in the way we consume was peachy, too. People used to spend a higher percentage of their income on things that lasted years longer and/or could be repaired. Now everything is disposable. Gonna be tough to get us out of this ****** mindset. We need to start, tho.

I wonder how we ever survived $5.15 to $7.25.

We should all be unemployed and homeless and living in abandoned businesses after that raise according to most folk in this thread.
