Much like some of the earlier comments, I have to say M&P out of the two choices. I have owned Taurus and don't regret it one little bit, but I like the M&P much more.
That said, GO BERETTA! You won't regret that one bit. You can pick up the PX4 in 9 for like, $500 and that is a steal. My PX4 in .40 is AWESOME. (The matching CX4 is SPECTACULAR but that's a whole different discussion.
