Hard to believe in small town rural Oklahoma that these signs are going up. You'd think with the small town farming heritage that guns wouldn't be seen as negative. Doesn't make sense to me. Sentinel has two businesses with new signs as of Nov. 1. I talked to one for a second, was in a hurry so didnt' get into much of a discussion, but she basically said seeing them makes her and old patrons nervous. I expect it's the same for the small grocery store since it's mostly visited by the older crowd in town. I guess they just don't understand that we've been carrying in there many years now. I did print off the letter Okiebryan has been kind to share with us and drop it off there. I plan on stopping back by in a week or so after they have had a chance to read, and hopefully think about it.

Yep, small town Americans don't see guns as a negative. They just have enough common sense to realize that the West has been settled and civilized. No need to sling'em on the hip out there danglin' for everyone to see. Most small town Amercians don't need that ego boost anymore. We either got a local yocal or a county mounty that's more then capable of keepin' the bad guys away with his holstered pea shooter. We just look at him and shake our heads knowing that he's only got one bullet in his right front pocket....

Happened to me yesterday in Vinita. When I moved here in 1999, I wanted to have a local bank. First place I visited was the Bank of Oklahoma. Very nice lobby and staff. But they had No Guns stickers on every door. I didn't really want to feel that tickle of annoyance each and every time I visited. Down the street was a First National Bank of Vinita. Been there as long as the town. No signs on the doors at all. So I opened my family account there and I've been happy with them.

But when I ran by yesterday to make a quick withdrawal... there were new red signs on the doors. No Firearms Allowed or something like that. I had like one minute to do my business so I couldn't stick around to ask who was in charge, etc. But I'm not happy about it.

I heard the Main banking organization were trying to get all the banks to post. I guess we need to start asking them for an escort when we are bringing in or taking out cash since they are forcing us to be unarmed and able to take care of ourselves.

I just noticed here in Shawnee that Eric's Pharmacy has a sign on the door that says concealed and open carry of handguns by law abiding citizens welcome. Thought that was a pretty cool thing to see at a business like that. The old pharmacy that I have went to all my life put up a sign a couple of days after Nov. 1. I won't ever go back.
