Shed Hunting

Can anyone tell me when the deer start dropping their antlers so I can go shed hunting?

They are already dropping. Some have been finding them since January which is typically way early.
Because of the drought? Don't know, but something is causing it.

They still have them down at my lease by Lindsey, OK. Seeing lots of bucks on camera that weren't there during the season.

I started seeing horn fall off in December this year, and like Dennis said, I can only attribute it to the stress of the summer drought. From camera activity, it appears my place has more bucks without horns than with them. I don’t normally start looking for sheds until April, but I’m planning to come up the end of the month and will see what I can find.

So how long do sheds last in the wild? I remember hearing years ago that ants and other insects will start eating on them. Is that true? If so, how quickly will they disappear ?

Generally mice and squirrels, rodent type critters. Just found one this past week (a last year one) that was all chewed on - shoulda took a picture of it had I thought.
