I agree. The people in Katrina was the entitlement crowd. They were going to take from anyone, because people "owed it to them". I am sure that some good people were down there, but the ones causing the trouble were scum. They are the ones who are still sitting on the street corner drinking and pissed off, because someone has not gave them a free home yet. Yes I know, but someone had to say it.

I have to agree with you about the entitlement crowd.
I remember the massive floods in Nashville, and along the Mississippi river a couple of years ago, and there was no widespread call for help from the Government. They just took care of their business, and got back to normal. No body had to be evacuated to other cities for welfare assistance, etc.
Wait a minute! I remember something! Those people actually worked for a living!
NOLA was a prime example of how to not run a country/state/city.

Just because someone doesn't have a gun doesn't mean they are disarmed. You can still get a gun over there if you are connected. It would be easy to use a bow, knife or baseball bat to defend oneself. This issue is about respect and self control.

I agree that the issue here is about respect and self control.

In a SHTF situation, apparently, the Japanese think, "Man, I better get some water and food", while Americans think, "OMGZORZ!!11 Free flatscreen TVs. BOOYAAH!".

Oh, and just because I can, "I need about tree-fiddy".

I'm glad this thread got back on track but this ^^^^^^^ is HILARIOUS!

That is all. Please continue.

I believe the people of New Orleans have a lot to learn from the Japanese. Not necessarily people in the U.S. as a whole but definately the people of New Orleans, including the law enforcement there.

The "entitlement" crowd/culture is much more prevelant along I-10 (from Houston to NOLA) than here in Oklahoma.. But much worse in NOLA than anywhere's else along I-10.. Acorn was started there.. just a coincidence? hmm..

Asian culture in general is more geared toward honor, doing right for the "collective", and such.. They've been accustomed to being in a monarchial state for quite some time, but personal and family honor is an underlying theme..

Whereas, America was and is made up of "rebels".. Everyone who came here, came here escaping something, and so, personal gain and freedom is the underlying theme. Although, in the past 50yrs or so, it has been twisted into some extremely socially unhealthy directions, in some parts of the country.. To the point where "honor", is almost a dirty word.

Atleast, thats my thoughts on the deeper philisophical side of the matter.
ultimately though, once the people feel that they are being dis-honored with in-accurate information, and panic sets in, due to shortages and lack of preparation, the basic human denominator will rear its ugly head..

Country, community, family, self..
It will take a strong person to deny the primordial desire to survive "honorably" above family.. and thats what it will boil down to, for anyone..
testinal fortitude of honor, and how little or much one has..

We are a capitalist society, they are a socialist society. I respect the way they are handling this crisis but I wouldn't trade this way of life for that one.

I don't think I'd categorize their society as socialist at all.

They have national health care, but other then that they seem to have embraced capitalism pretty well.

I think they have adopted capitalism to a degree but their underlying theme still smacks of socialism. The culture is far different from ours with respect to freedoms and things we take for granted (or no longer have but think we do).
Maybe I need to rethink and restudy Japan, but it seemed closer to socialism than any other moniker I could apply to it.

Yes, you can get a gun, particularly if you know some chimpira or better yet, the obayun. Andogumi, Yamaguchigumi etc. organized crime families.

I worked for some Japanese nationals when I was very young. I loved them. Great people.

It darned sure is - it's a direct comparison. Most of Japan is a heavily populated area; so is New Orleans. You don't hear of any looting in any of the large cities in Japan, and it's got nothing to do with whether they have guns or not. They have dignity and self respect. In fact, there is no looting IN SPITE of the fact that no one is armed. That should make for a hotbed of theft and lawlessness.

I don't think there would be quite the looting effect in Woodward or any other small town, especially in the middle part of the country. But if you think for a minute that NOLA is an anomoly, guess again. There are many metro areas in this country that would react just the same. Hell, morons en masse loot and ransack when their pro sports team wins a championship. Just let the balloon go up and see what happens.

great argument for Communism
