The senator needs to go all the way and also burn books on the subject of explosives. And why not do background checks on people wanting to study engineering or chemistry. In addition we need on-site government supervision in all universities, libraries and bookstores. Only right thinking people should be in positions of authority there. These supervisors would be kind of like the political officers in the good old communist countries. You just can't be too safe.

Typical stupid in D.C. Smokeless powder is not classed as an explosive until you get into several hundred lbs, only Black Powder is regardless of quantity. I'm sure I could walk through most folks garage's and find things more dangerous than a few lbs of Black Powder.

From what everybody that knew him has said so far, the younger one would have passed a background check anyway. The only thing to possibly stop him would be a lack of 2 years of age (19 vs 21). The older may have too, considering the Feds didn't think he was very interesting....
