You didn't answer my question.

Also, it sounds like you are saying that the union employees should have taken an individual pay cut for "the greater good". That sounds pretty socialistic to me.

The answer is yes I would take the pay cut.

The union employees should have taken individual pay cuts so that they could continue to support their families, but they opted for the socialistic route instead.

GreezyPete- Unless you work for the union itself as administraion (or as a strongarm), then your money is earned by you. This is a huge part of the union mentality. The union is supposed to work for you, no the other way around. Kind of like our government is supposed to be "of the people by the people", instead it has become "take from the people to rule the people"

So they should have taken LESS money home to their families? So you are saying that working for a bankrupt failing company for LESS money than they would get from unemployment INSURANCE (remember its insurance, we pay for it, unemployment isn't welfare) is better? How long do you think the company would have stayed viable? 26 weeks?

Also...you might not want to let your employer know that you will work for less money. They might take you up on that offer?

How many of you can honestly say that if you were asked to take an 8% pay cut on top of PREVIOUS pay and benefit cuts that you would stay?

I can answer that question. Many moons ago I worked for a BA company called Mikahtek. They announced an 8% pay cut to help pay for the resurfacing of their parking lot. I quickly found another job...and let's just say that when i quit, my exit interview was epic. I didn't just burn that bridge...I poured gasoline on it then danced on the ashes.

Seems like the employees of American Airlines have taken numerous cuts to preserve their jobs.

The average line worker for Hostess made about $31k annually. Less 8% is $28,520 or $548 per week. That seems like much more than the $368 unemployment check these people are going to receive.

Most employers realize that their employees will work for less, they just don't take advantage of the economy.
