KI5UIF here: I agree with Istandalone. Get on the internet, and you should be able to find a local HAM club, by checking a few of the HAM radio sites ARRL.com might be of help. Anyu club worth their call sign, will have a couple of General or Extra class operators that would be willing to help you determine if the YEASU can be made operational. { Sometimes these older radios are known as "boat anchors"}
If your Dad has passed, the FCC will let you apply for his call sign, when you get your Tech. license.
