If just plain 'NO' is too difficult, especially regarding demands upon your time, try saying this:

"I'm sorry, that's just impossible."

No further explanation should be needed.

For me, sometimes it not only a no, but a hell no.
Other times I feel that I need to explain why so there are no bad feelings among the parties.
It's dependent on the situation at hand.

Dad to kid: NO! And here is why......

I say no daily. Sometimes several times in a day.
