I retired in 1997 with 21 years behind me, and still have issues with posers an whiners!!! Oh and I'm an OSA misfit!!

Leighton,

I like the way you think... Did not see any of the "stuff" some of you folks have, but after close to 30 years(4 Army) and 25 AF Reserve,(Desert Storm thrown in) I have very little tolerance for the internet commandos (that have never put on a uniform) as some have mentioned here.

I also am proud to call myself an OSA misfit..... REALLY looking forward to SuperDave's show next weekend....

I think using the term "veteran" universally is also a mistake when talking about returning to civilian life. Doing one or two hitches will definitely have an impact on an individual, no doubt, and I'm not discounting that fact. having said that, I've seen just as many looser one term vets get out(or get tossed out) as I have extremely outstanding one term vets that I hated to lose. You either love it or hate it, but should you decide to stay, you support it regardless. When someone does 20 or 30 years and tries to rejoin civilian life, it is a very hard challenge that can't be compared to starting over in your 20's after 2,4 or 6 years. If you've been type "A", eat, sleep, breathe it for over 1/2 of your life, you may never adjust.

I'm more easy going since I retired 4 1/2 years ago. Life is good. I only work 8 hours a day. Get off at 1630 every day. Never work weekends. Never have to deploy again. Can transfer to another department or even quit anytime I feel like it. People always ask me why I smile and laugh all the time. Does life get any better? This civilian stuff is GREAT!!!

I don't know about you, but I joined the military so that others wouldn't have to see that happen. So that others would have the freedom to make outrageous claims and ****. So I don't LAWL at internet ninjas. I dismiss them, but not because they've never had to experience death.

I feel like I'm more agreeable since I joined. I've met a lot of different people in the military from all over the country, people with different religions, different socio-economic backgrounds, different culture, different ways of speaking English, different political views, and much more. The military has definitely broadened my horizons and made me more tolerant of many things, but stupidity is not one of them.

I traveled the world during my time at the worst time to be in the military. I didn't have a choice, I was drafted. The civilians hated us, travel in uniform was required, but the haters were verbal if not physical at times. Being a veteran of the Vietnam war was so detrimental to getting a job after getting out, the government enacted legislation that put Vietnam, and Vietnam era veterans in the same category as minorities. I've had to sign papers at every job I've been in to say if I wanted to participate in the affirmative action program. The answer was NO!
So, yes I'm intolerant of the idiots that have not been there and done that.
I've never heard of anybody having Post traumatic syndrome from a bar fight at college corner.
I applaud the attitude the civi's have toward the military service of today's veterans. Kudu's to you.

c'mon chief, i doubt you seen as many 1 term "loosers" get out as you've had outstanding sailors get out.

Thats a pretty wide stretch for a 20-30 yr career. You either seen alot of 1term loosers or very few outstanding sailors. That would be like me saying Ive seen as many loser lifers retire as CPO's as i have PO1's not make Chief and retire.

And your right about adjusting, some never do but most do.

BTW im prolly a 1 term looser because i hated going to sea and being away from my kids.
Just rubs me wrong hearing anyone call any vet a looser. Even the worst vet was willing to be put in harms way.
