My next door neighbors have been the recipient of a credible verbal threat. They have already secured VPO's, but do not put all their faith in them (as they shouldn't).

I offered to loan them one of my handguns.

Any thoughts on this? Good idea, bad idea?

Thanks

They can legally buy a firearm in less than an hour, and I would suggest they do that instead.

If nothing else, they may make a bad judgement call and kill someone needlessly, and you'd have that hanging over your head.

Don't loan them something you'd hate to lose in a post shooting investigation, but if they're trustworthy and it might save a life, I'd say go for it. I'd loan my neighbors a gun under the same circumstances, but they already have their own. :)

I'd sell it to them before I'd loan it to them. But even then there are probably lawyers standing in line to make a case that you are liable if you knew it might be used to kill/mame.
