I loaned a 1911 to a kid qualifying for PD here. Had only met him that afternoon when he brought his into the shop. I held on to his grandfather's old colt that I fixed for free.

If they have the means to buy one for themselves I would help them do their research so that their time between now and their purchase was as short as possible.

I think some of you are a little paranoid, but that's just my opinion. :anyone:

It pays to be a little paranoid. These days everyone is out to get you.

I would consider loaning them a shotgun before I would loan a handgun. I would steer them toward buying a used pump shotgun and a twenty gauge at that. If they don't have a gun now they are most likely gun novices and would be better off learning with a shotgun. I have not read all of the comment on this thread and this may be a repeat dea.
