Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the american public.

Guess people voted with their wallets and chose over hyped paranoia, and beanie babies by someone I find to be deplorable rather than getting something new off the ground.

I've gone to many a gun show with money in my pocket just looking for nothing specific and walked out broke caused something jumped out and said "buy me and take me home". I never go in expecting to find what I want but feel lucky when I do.

I will second this OR.... you go in looking for something specific and walk out with something completely different. I will say that my gunshow days are long gone, the brick and mortar stores here in Tulsa beat 99% of the gunshow prices I see.

Even the Wanenmacher show? I've gone there looking for specific firearms, and come out with something different. This time, I really wanted a postage stamp IHC Garand, and left with a M1A with almost all USGI metal parts (except the receiver, of course) made by the original Springfield Armory - something you just don't see these days.

The size of that show, IMHO, increases the chances of finding something that tickles one's fancy, so the entry fee isn't as much of an issue as it is at the smaller shows.

For me gun shows are two-fold experiences - I like BS'ing with other gun enthusiats in a "safe" environment where I don't have to worry about frightened yuppie moms running to have a cop look us over, etc., and I enjoyed seeing if there was anything that tickled my fancy to buy and to do the "touchy-feely" thing with different guns, holsters, etc. The truth is that if I know I want to buy a specific gun then I go either to a gun dealer or, more likely, GunBroker or here.

I am very disappointed that Dave didn't belly-up and explain the situation. at least at some level, to those who have tried to support him during his efforts. It would have been much better to learn of this from him rather than through rumor. I must confess that I have had concerns for some time now. He's had two different shows scheduled for Ardmore over the past year, both of which were no-shows on his part. Not a peep from him beforehand; still on his website up to the day of the shows. I even emailed him once about it and received no reply. He had a lot of loose ends. His recent email about the upcoming shows is a good example. That would have been a no-brainer to take down before it went out.

Still, I'm sad to see this take place. Perhaps he has some serious personal issues that are in the way. I hope not.

.

went to a few of his shows . Agree w/ Ronny. I would like to know , hope it's not health issues.

Part of the problem with SuperDave shows was the sheer amount of them. This state is saturated with shows and they're all competing for the same small piece of pie. Superdave started with something good and lots of support, but he pushed it till it broke. The original concept was a winner, quality show and affordable prices without the fluff associated with Metcalf's nonsense. He should have organized two or three shows a year and made sure those were good shows rather than have one every weekend - no one wants to pay door fee plus gas plus food to go see the same stuff that's always there weekend after weekend. Then, as the quality went down, the incentive to go became less and less.

As Ronny mentioned, the writing on the wall had been there for a while. It's sad it ended the way it did, Superdave should have stepped up and ended it in a responsible manner.

On the flip side, someone serious about looking for a gun might wonder if it's worth the $15 to try and find it at a gun show. It seems to me that strategy would appeal to a narrower range of show goers; the ones who are looking for firearms they can get at the LGS or online, or those looking for less common milsurps, would be discouraged by that steep an entry fee.

Perhaps set the door fee at $15 with $9 refundable with purchase, or a $9 coupon good at any vendor. Something to encourage people to make a purchase.
