Bonner you a good man. I'll chip in for the vet bills. Or I'll buy you some bacon. Either way you are one to be admired for your efforts for this little guy. I hate pits. I lost my lab as a kid to one, I'm glad this pup is in your good hands.

He let me flush out the wound channel with the NS syringe, but when I poured hydrogen peroxide into that gaping hole, he came alive.

Edit: Thanks for the offer to help, but I've got the bases covered. Thanks, though - I really do appreciate it.

Great job getting in there and caring for the dog.

Of you and the dog, I predict life long friends.

As his coat dries, more wounds are becoming apparent. This one is near a joint, and goes into the bone. When he is sedated in the morning, they will be able to do a proper head to toe assessment. You know, around 5 years ago, a female stray, a mixed breed came up to our porch. It was summer and very hot. She had a horrific throat wound, which I thought was a gunshot wound. She could not drink. I tried to get her to stay, but she left, and I heard her being set upon by attacking dogs down the road. I drove over there, but could not find her. Now, I realize that was probably not a gun shot wound.

If you use PayPal and need some help with things let me know budd.

Thanks, nofearfactor! It won't break the bank, but I appreciate the offer. They were going to charge 250.00 to drive out here on an emergency call, and spent several minutes trying to talk me out of it. It will be within my means to cover without too big a deal. Thanks, again, though, I appreciate the offer.

Damn. Let us know what the vet says. My guess is just swollen from trauma. Hope it isn't too expensive to treat him.

Also, I'd be interested to hear what the neighbors have to say about kicking in on the cost to patch up your pooch as well as the status of the other dog. I absolutely love my dogs and the bigger two of the four, one female shepherd and one female pit bull, get into scrapes with each other once or twice a year but are of the gnashing of teeth variety. If stuff ever gets as serious as this did, I'd hope I could make it as quick and painless as possible for the aggressor.

Well, I know the saline flush and peroxide flush helped, but with a deep joint wound like that, they will have to get in there and clean that out while the dog is sedated. Oral antibiotics will be necessary, as well, I suspect. The Pit Bull went for the appendages. This is where the deep, gaping wounds are. When I got out there, he had the Shepherd by the throat. My wife said the Pit Bull walked into the yard, and our dog went up to him, and it appeared they were going to be friends, then the attack commenced.

This hole above the elbow joint goes into the bone.

I doubt my neighbors will offer to help pay for what their dog has done.

You should cut the peroxide with water. You get a better effect from the pup. Wont burn as much. Your gonna need lotsa antibiotic ointment. Most times they wont keep a bandage in place.

You can also give him benedryl or ibuprofen to help with pain n swelling.

Jr's well-acquainted with proper wound care, I assure you, guys.

Good job on the perseverance. If our friend hears about the ordeal, you'll likely have someone trying to take over the care efforts, if I know anything... soft spot for doggies, lol.

We will be driving the dog to the vet in Tishomingo in an hour, they open up @ 0800. Then we have to get the gate and get all that set up to where it can effectively keep out large predators. Then I've got to pull and sharpen the lawn mower blades, what a day this will be!

That wound above the elbow is of concern to me more than the others.

We need to make a concerted effort to get BOB on here. I have mentioned it to her several times, and she says she is going to, but never does.
