I agree with some of the comments that teachers shouldn't be on strike, or constantly complaining. However, they aren't "constantly" complaining. What would you do, if your salary stayed the same year after year, class sizes continued to increase, additional duties were assigned because of unruly students, additional reporting requirements because of actions by legislators, having to be the "guards" during recess, and then the talk is that they should be armed? The state legislature only responds when they hear enough loud voices. Walking out when school or the legislative body is not in session is nothing more than mental masterbation.

And what would you base merit pay on? Standardized testing? That's already been proven to be faulty. A teacher has a student for nine months, and has no impact on previous years. Testing takes place in a classroom with typical students, students with one or more parents in prison, students that do not speak English, students that are being abused at home, and students that don't have enough to eat. Would you want your raise based on that?

I have an honest question - "no pay raise" in 10 years? Does that mean they do not get a yearly rates based on inflation that is automatic? That literally what they are being paid today is the same exact amount that they were paid 10 years ago? I'd like to hear if this is true or not.

It’s about 10 years since a raise went to our friend who is a Teacher in Broken Arrow. However, School Admission (Superintendent, Principals, and a Office Staff have had multiple raised during this period.

Teachers receive a step Raise every year
OKLAHOMA has 1 Teacher to 17 Student
(But most are not in the class room teaching)

Oklahoma must get rid on over 423 Superintendent, close small schools by consolidated rural schools
One Superintendent per county (77) and 13 superintendent for the very large urban schools for a total of 90

Step raises are like $400 a year or less and class sizes haven't averaged 17 in decades. My 5th grader is in a class of 29. Her school has 1st and 2ng grade classes of 32+. Throw in a couple of knuckle head kids whose parents see school as free babysitting and you have a a full blown 3 ring circus for 8 hours a day.

How many here see their cost of living go up less than $400 a year? Not counting new house=bigger payment and more ins, new cars, etc.... But legitiment increases....same house big insurance increase, property tax increase, health ins premium increase, increase of grocery costs etc...

I'm not a teacher, but I have taken the time to talk to several, a couple of principals, and a superintendent. This is truly a problem that needs to be addressed. Probably cannot be solved, but we should certainly be able to begin to correct the years of neglect
