One thing to highlight is that people that believe this is a gateway drug must realize the widespread use of weed for years. IF this were true, then you'd see a LOT less weed out there, and even more meth and opiate use.
Actually according to real time border patrol stats, there is an explosion of meth and opiates across our borders. Weed is trending down because the cartels are making more money with Heroin, Fentanyl, Cocaine, Meth.
Pot is a low profit drug that is high volume in density when trying to hide it to get it across the border. Hence the local illicit, illegal growers in the US are taking up the slack with pot farms and prosecution is being lowered or ignored in some cases.
Illegal pot across our southern borders is still immense with the illegal importation.
