I found my beef on Craigslist and have been buying grass fed beef from the same person going on four years. It's surprising how good grass fed beef tastes as compared to store bought beef. And the hamburger can't be beat!
Most of it is dairy cattle beef. It really sucks.

I know a couple processors. I asked one the other day if they’d started running into cancellations yet. He said they’d had several. He said what really sucks is the sorry suckers that panicked and booked dates that have now changed their mind don’t have the decency to let him know ahead of tome so he could call someone else on the long list to fill the spot. He now has his wife calling everyone that has a date a week ahead of time so he can fill the spot if they cancel. He said he’s getting several cancellations but atleast he can shorten the wait time. I’m not surprised. I said last summer that this is what would happen. People get skeered and buy all the toilet paper n such. Too bad these processors weren’t getting deposits.

Our date is about a year old and now I'm hoping I can get 2 in instead of just the 1.. I'm seriously looking at putting up a small building and processing our own meats.. This morning Tucker says grocery shelves are going to look like depression times.. I need to find some more wheat for the wheat grinder I bought here sometime back.. Damn feed stores don't carry feed wheat anymore.. How low can we go ?

You should be able to buy feed wheat at any elevator. At least you can around here.

"should" I know but it's treated seed wheat I've come across so far.. Maybe here soon.. Every weekend I buy 15% calf grower for the 2 steers we have put up, every weekend there's been a price increase..
Had a couple here this morning for chicks, he was from Russia and she was from Siberia.. Interesting visit it was.. They have 17 acres between Jones and Luther and want chicks every month.. I had them lol with my opinions on the condition of the country and world in general.. They too are preparing for what may come as they've seen what we haven't "yet"..

that is interesting. i thought the seed security act or whatever it is called shut that all down??? it did around here anyway. seems that the monsanto companies etc decided to lobby congress and make the taxpayer pay to protect their patented crops. so the usda just made it illegal for a farmer to sell his wheat without paying monsanto for permission. just because there might be a smidge of their genetics in the bin.

i think it would be best to just talk to a farmer and see if he will let you fill some buckets right out of the combine. remember that it will have chaff and bugs and stuff in it. i usually get a couple hundred pounds of peas this way. but i trade sand plum jelly for the favor. grin

Correct. Seed dealers have the seed market sewed up tight. As earlier stated you have to sign away your life now for wheat seed, and certify that you won't use your harvest for seed wheat the following season.
Everybody signs it, but I'm sure there are some with grain bins that may or may not keep a truck load or two. :hey3:
