I got in the habit of keeping mine clean when I was young and watched my father mistreat his firearms. "Why clean it, the next bullet I fire will shove all the dirt out" He told me that over and over again. So I inherited his old 22 rifle pitted inside and out. Most of the rest of his guns were in no better shape. I had to take a cylinder hone to his 357.
Sad part is now I am not allowed to clean mine because of my lungs being damaged. Come spring though I will open up the garage, put on a mask and give all mine a good cleaning.
