When you buy a gun at a shop and they call in the instant background check, does the make of gun and/or serial # go on the application? In other words does the FBI, etc know what you purchased? Thanks.
After they are no longer in business, then what?? Are they destroyed? It will go on the yellow sheet (4473) but it will not be given to the FBI at the time of the back ground check. The dealer you purchased it from keeps it in their files until they are no longer in business.
The FBI does ask if it is a long gun, hand gun, pistol, etc.
So eventually ATF gets all the records. If the dealer sells out to another dealer then he gives the forms to the new dealer. If the dealer decides to quit doing business then he sends the forms into the ATF.
At least that is what the ATF person told me when I asked them.

If you buy more then one Pisto from the same dealer in 5 business days then the dealer is required to send in a form that details the transaction (Make Model and serial numbers).pretty much. but when you first buy it, they just know if its a long gun or a hand gun.
